Brand New Morning
A new day is much like a new fallen snow,
an untouched blanket, neatly spread before you
not a footprint yet made,
not a wrinkle or crinkle imposed.
That is the thought that gripped me this morning after I woke.
I lie awake for a moment thinking about what I must do today
then as I threw back the covers and began to step off the bed,
something said "wait", "not yet"
"don't get up and stomp out into the beauty without taking a minute
to examine it, reflect on it, thank God for it".
"don't take it for granted"
so I just waited, and thought and wondered
before running out into the "snow".
I admired the quietness, the slow silence that
lay before me. Then, I aplogized.
I apologized to God for my hurriedness.
I asked Him to help me make my steps wisely
as not to mess up the beauty of the clean, fresh
day before me.
I got up and heard a bird singing and saw the sun
shining. I did not rush to the laundry or the phone
or the t.v.
you know, snow quickly melts.
So does a new day.
So get up tomorrow and examine your "new snow"
before you run out into it.
Love,
Melissa

Four Fudgesicles

by Melissa Scott Barrow

One fudgesicle called from the freezer to me
"open the door, and set me free".
So I abliged the poor little thing
and ripped off the wrapper and gave it a fling.
Before I knew it, the sicle was gone
and I was in the kitchen, all alone.
Then what to my wondering ears did I hear
but another faint call
from the old fridgadaire
"let me out too,
I want to join you".
Okay I then thought and opened the door
and before I knew, I had eaten one more.
"What am I doing", I thought to myself
and I began to put dishes back on the shelf.
Then what do you know, another call came
and of course my reaction was surely the same.
Another one down, before I knew it
I told myself "this time, you blew it,
get out of this kitchen, you better start leavin'
then I thought "well I should make this
odd number even". So yes, I did it, I opened the door
I reached right in and retrieved one more.
That's how I did it, I confess it to you,
and If you had been there you'd have
joined me..... wouldn't you????

Good Friday

Good Friday
So many thoughts about today. I have cried today. I have thought about what Jesus must have faced on this "not so good day". I think that is what God wanted me to do, think about the price His son paid for me, and accept it over and over again, renewing it in my mind. I hope this blog has encouraged you to do the same. But, please don't go away saddened or discouraged, read on and go away from this blog ready to peak behind the stone and find something unexpected.
Good Friday

Today, they walked my Lord up Calvary's Hill.
tonight, in the grave, His body lies still
wrapped in cloth from head to toe
the guards outside
walk to and fro
but the stone and the guards
and the wrapping so tight
cannot hold Him
past Saturday night!
the dawn of Sunday
will show He is gone
and all that is left
behind that great stone
are the wrappings
and napkin that covered his face
and hope in the darkness
because of God's grace.

Have you ever seen an apple of gold? Maybe in a decorative bowl on a dining table or in the fashion of a pin on a lady's jacket but an actual apple of gold would quickly change the appearance of your smile upon sinking your teeth in of course. I hope as you you read my upcoming blogs, you will be able to spot an apple of gold here and there. I do hope it will change the appearance of your smile by giving you a laugh or even just putting a smile there in the first place. Speaking of apples, here is a little bite for you to nibble on - a biblical bedtime snack you might say - "a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver" - Proverbs 25:11. So there you go, the words of my blog are meant to be apples of gold.... just simple, fitly spoken words for your enjoyment. Thanks and hover near the blog tree, another apple may fall pretty soon. - Melissa
